The difference between a prime contractor and a subcontractor?

The prime contractor is responsible for the completion of a project under contract with the owner. The prime contractor must complete the project and can hire multiple subcontractors to do so. The prime contractor is responsible for compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.

The subcontractor enters into a contract to complete work for the prime contractor.
