Why do I need to obtain a Diesel Engine Permit?

The Workers’ Safety and Compensation Commission (WSCC) requires that:
The manager shall ensure that no internal combustion engine is used underground other than a diesel engine for which a permit has been issued by the chief inspector. (per ss. 10.60. (1) of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut Mine Health and Safety Regulations)
